Mobility Management Plan
A Mobility Management Plan is being implemented with the objective of developing a sustainable transport
policy for the Mater and Children's Hospitals Development. This is required under the Grant of Planning
Permission for the project (Condition No. 13). It is based on the Dublin City Development Plan 1999 and
the DTO Transportation Strategy The Mobility Management Plan contains a mix of 800 car parking spaces
below ground, split between staff and visitors, with 100 further spaces at grade around the site,
(this essentially replaces the parking both Hospitals have at present). It is envisaged that a further car park for circa 300 cars will be developed nearby at Nerney's Court.
The key principles of the strategy include:
- The need to provide affordable and sustainable access to the Mater and Children's Hospital for staff, patients and visitors
- The promotion of alternative modes of transport to the private car
- The need to manage parking demand at the Mater and Children's Hospitals
- The need to minimize traffic impact at the Mater and Children's Hospitals
Vipré-Ireland, a full service provider of transport solutions, has been selected to implement and monitor the Mobility Management Plan. Due to the critical nature of the MMP, outsourcing the implementation and management of the plan to a professional firm specializing in services of this nature will provide a huge benefit to the new campus. Vipré-Ireland will provide the following services:
- Establish a MCHD Commuter Centre in an accessible location in each hospital
- Car Park Management Programme
- Management of an interactive Ride-matching Scheme
- Introduction of a guaranteed Ride Home Scheme
- Ongoing programme management and administration
Travelways Brochure
The
Travelways brochure (978Kb PDF) was produced with the input of the Mobility Management Group and outlines a travel plan for the hospitals in advance of the start of work on the Main Development. The brochure was distributed to hospital departments in July 2005.
New Bicycle Shed
A new, secure bicycle shed has been erected at the main entrance to the Mater Hospital. This replaces the old bike shed that was located beside the now-demolished GI Building. The new bike shed has been deliberately placed in a prominent location to encourage increased use of the facility. Keys can be obtained form Mater General Services.
